Anthropic raises $65B, leapfrogs OpenAI as the most valuable AI startup
TechCrunch

Anthropic said on May 28 it had raised $65 billion in a Series H round that values the company at $965 billion post-money, vaulting it past OpenAI's $852 billion mark from March to become the most valuable private AI company in the world. The round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital, with a long list of co-leads including Capital Group, Coatue, GIC and ICONIQ.

The financing folds in $15 billion of previously committed hyperscaler investment, including $5 billion from Amazon, and brings infrastructure partners Micron, Samsung and SK hynix into the cap table. The company said its run-rate revenue had crossed $47 billion earlier in the month, up sharply since its February Series G.

Why it matters

The round underscores how capital is concentrating in a handful of frontier labs even as the broader venture market tightens elsewhere. A near-trillion-dollar private valuation also raises the stakes for Anthropic's revenue trajectory, which now has to justify numbers usually reserved for the largest public technology companies.

The raise landed days before Anthropic confidentially filed for an IPO, setting up one of the most closely watched public debuts of the next year.
