BUDA — TerraFirma, a construction-technology startup founded by former SpaceX engineers, is relocating its headquarters from Austin to a 40,000-square-foot 'integrated HQ, R&D, and testing facility' at Tower Business Park in Buda.

The company had been working out of a Southwest Austin property it called Robot Ranch. TerraFirma, backed by Bain Capital Ventures, combines software, robotics and operational processes to make earthmoving and site work faster, safer and cheaper.

Buda City Council approved roughly $350,000 in incentives tied to the move, including funds for tenant build-out and grants pegged to job creation. The company plans to add about 25 employees to reach roughly 45 total.

Why it matters

TerraFirma's move shows the Austin tech orbit widening outward: smaller cities along the I-35 corridor are now competing for startups with incentive packages of their own. For a robotics company that needs space to test heavy machines, a 40,000-square-foot integrated site in Buda is a more practical home than a constrained Austin address, and Buda gets a high-tech anchor in return.
